The story so far...
After being forced from his Bolivian home to America, young Miguel Francisco is immediately plunged into making important decisions about
his life. Decisions that will not only affect him, but the lives of his new friends and potentially the world. Will he side with the man
who wants to make him a god? Or will he embrace the harder path and the often inevitable costs of doing the right thing?
Set in a world where superpowers, mechanical apes, and genetically altered monsters are the order of the day, The Contingent explores not
just the superficial ideas of superheroics and right versus wrong, but the motivations behind them.

Miguel D'Anconia Francisco
Miguel is confident, calculating, and exudes an uncompromising, individualist nature. He doesn’t seek power over others or fame and has no interest in anything but his own goals and personal happiness. He doesn’t view others as stepping stones on his way to the top, but rather as potential friends and trading partners, with whom he can exchange services and values.
His life is lead by his own integrity and his uncompromising philosophy. He lives for the sake of no one and asks no one to live for sake of him.
While he comes off as hard and high strung, he’s really quite relaxed. Those who have earned Miguel’s friendship are privy to a side of him that is relaxed and sometimes playful, but also quite serious.
While many heroes change personas when the step into their costume, Miguel does not—he’s the same individual in the costume as he is in his day to day life.

Haley
Haley is cute, fun, and very smart. At first Haley does not take the idea of using her powers in combat situations too kindly. But eventually she realizes that using her powers as a weapon is acceptable when acting in self-defense.
She’s very proud of herself and is not the type of girl who spends all her time swooning over boys—she’s more interested in men. Men, not being older guys but rather individuals who are willing to step up and stand for something or work hard or have ambition.

John Forkey
Mr. Forkey is Miguel’s polar opposite. Where Miguel seeks power and control over no one, Forkey wants power and control over everyone. To Forkey there is no greater society than one where every man, woman, and child lives in a state of unyielding servitude to every other man, woman, and child.
To Forkey, and his superiors, the means to achieving this goal is through the use of force—to that end he works to build a paramilitary force to carry out his whims. In Forkey’s mind, the use of force is not reserved for self-defense; it is a tool to achieve goals. Compromise, faith, sacrifice, and force are Forkey’s primary tools.
He has no use for what he perceives the failures of “traditional” logic and reason—he prefers the tenants of faith. To Forkey, just believing can make things happen and he uses his faith to justify his actions—to him, the ends justify the means.
Forkey is a man who has no philosophy or moral code to speak of—to him everything is subjective and there is no way to determine what is right or wrong. To Forkey, the entire world is a cloud of gray.
Mr. Forkey is Miguel’s polar opposite. Where Miguel seeks power and control over no one, Forkey want...[more]
